4000 and a saw for my cousin

First, I finally took my 4000 out of mothballs. It was one of my earlier re-builds and it ran good for a while, then choppy. Did a bunch of other saws, finally looked at it again. Tried starting, no luck, reset the carb, no luck. Checked the fuel line, hard as a rock. This line was from a 25' batch that was green but no name brand. Well I paid the price. Changed it out with my new oregon stuff and within 3 pulls it was up and running. I forgot the compression this saw had. I had removed the base gasket when I went thru it. I checked the comp and Its north of 165. While it was out I decided to put the new oregon chain and rim on it. Low and behold I found the set of 4000 rings I was looking for forever in the box! Not sure why I ordered them but good to have.
Next is the S25DA I did for my cousin. He liked his brothers so much he asked me Christmas day if I had another. So I went thru it, with the usual, ran and cut great. The he takes it home and says it wont start. I go over, sure enough, cant start it! Took it to work, noticed fuel all over the bed of my truck. I left too much slack in the line and the flywheel cut it. Easy fix. Took it in the yard and cut some skids. Noticed no oil on bar. Checked and the man. oiler wasnt working. Took it apart and there was no pick up hose! I put one on (made a mess on the bench at work), works like new now. This saw is a '77, so at some point some one messed with that oiler. Has a new bar and chain too.

hmmmm

Just remember the 295 is only 46cc!! It should not have any more then a 16" on it if you ask me. My buddy has one that we muffler modded (they need that really bad) and put a 16" on it with a 20LP chain on it. It rock and rolls now.

so ya think even with a muffler mod an 18 would be a lil much???? i was shocked at my new lil 2.3 with a sharp 14 inch chain that lil saw was fun the 3.7 was like it was with an 18 it just ripped the husky was pretty smooth the 295 was a lil slower i think the husky would do well with an 18 inch and the 3.7 should have the 20....it was fun i have a mountan of pine cookies my wife think im getting crazy LOl....she can understand cutting for money but now im draggin logs hom to cut for fun LMAO!

When you talk to Joe, ask him where the heck is the PP655 decals!!!!

I will! Thanks for the advice. So the actual covers are the same, but the decals are different? I guess looking at Joe's 4000, I see a huge difference. Mine doesn't have a chain brake, and his cover is cast.

Am I over analyzing all this? I just want my saw to be correct.

I thought all they had down there in Florida was palm trees to cut! Lol

Well the covers are the same but there different as well. :ices_rofl:

Its the indents for the decals in the plastic that is different, otherwise the covers are the same. Like I said the early ones actually used 2 decals. Upper and lower, the later ones used a single more square decal.

Nick, Most of the earlier 4000's were labeled counter-vibes on the decals and were usually green handled. Later 4000's were labeled Professional on the decal, and were mostly black handled. The saws are identical other wise.
Both have plastic clutch covers. The later ones have a somewhat rectangular indentation for the decal. The earlier ones have a narrow oval indentation for the 4000 blue decal. I think the ones like Joe has, with the chain brake are metal. I believe was a dealer option in the USA. The ones for the Canadian market had brakes also.
Her are a couple pics of both styles.

With all that being said. You are liable to find a contradiction. I have one with green handle with the professional type decals. LOL:D The last of the saws in that series was the PP375, 385, 395 which all had the square style decal ed plastic covers also.

Gregg,

we have oak and pine trees and lots of nasty pepper trees

That's right, I just had to razz ya a bit. I used to live in Orlando when I was going to school, and saw a bunch of big old trees. However, the closer you got to Disney, they suddenly became made of fiberglass and rebar. I would hate to hit one of those with a saw.:censored:

Guys, I am working on lightening up and just enjoying the saws, but I still struggle with wanting things "right" on them. As if I'm going to be entering a "chainsaw concourse d'elegance" with them.

Nick

Thanks Greg! Now that I see the 2 different versions, mine is like your green handled saw. With that info, I feel better knowing what I've got for sure. Looks like I should be needing the 2 piece decals.

This is just my opinion, but I think they were just like car, truck, tractor, motorcycle companies. Was a marketing thing, just change the color, decals, whatever to kind of update models until more major changes were made if any. Instead of bringing out completely new models every year.

Gregg,

That first pic is freakin sweet. That level of photography is not often seen alongside a chainsaw!!!! I would like to get dad one of those.

Gregg,

In the motorcycle biz, when a new model came out and the only difference was tha stickers and paint colors, we referred to it as BNG...Bold New Graphics :msp_lol:

I just picked up a 7700, and was going to replace the fuel lines, but no one has the right size line. All of the shops have a line that will fit through the hole in the tank, but not tightly enough to prevent leakage, or a line that is too large and no way will go through....nothing in between. What size is the line for the 7700?
Also, does anyone have a close up pic of the venting setup? The IPL doesn't show it very well. I have the fitting that screws into the tank, but nothing else.

If all else fails I have used a piece or two of heat shrink tubing on the fuel line to take up the space and put a little silicone spray on it to coax it into the hole.

Anyone have aid tire of what the oil tank vent pin looks like on a 2300 cva? Where could I find one or what could I use in its place?

Aid tire? Must be posting from your phone. :hmm3grin2orange:

Jeff told you the truth, but I'm wondering why someone would have ever removed it to begin with. There would never be a reason to.
