I wasn't trying to pick a fight. Just giving MY opinion and experience on equipment that I own. I haven't put the
4620 into a log yet, so I have no idea how it will perform against the 025. I don't know about semi-adjustable carb
issues because all I've ever had to do to mine was adjust the idle. I don't have "junk in the clutch" issues because
I blow it out with compressed air when I'm done using it. I personally think that how well your equipment treats
you is a reflection of how well you treat it, regardless of brand. And I wasn't trying to turn this into a Stihl thread.
Someone asked about mine, and I responded.

So, back on topic, how do I make a "hot saw" out of my 4620?

"Quality-wise, the 4620 doesn't hold a candle to my 025".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but those quoted words above are yours are they not?

Now you come back and say you have not even put the 4620 into a log yet, correct?

Whats wrong with these two statments?

I doubt very seriously if you could turn this Poulan thread into a Stihl thread if you tried.

Interesting. I don't know the age on this saw, but it looks practically brand new, with just a little oily dust
in the crevices. I understand that it hadn't seen much wood. I'll give 'er a workout as soon as the temperature
drops to a decent level. Thanks, Rakoprtr.

Sheesh, MM, don't get your shorts in a wad. I got back on topic. What more can you ask for?

Yep no prob Im not into the whole best saw thing I have my fav brands like everyone else but there's pros and cons to everything as far as the 4620 goes it was my first saw got it for 40 bucks at a fleamarket with the tags still on it hasn't failed me yet starts second pull everytime ( as does my 021 ) And I dont mind leaving it in my tool box of my truck that way if it gets banged up or stolen I won't miss it as much as my more pricey saws anyway that's my $0.02
Have fun with it if ya don't like it hell I could alwas use just one more saw

Hehe...I'll let you know. Oh, BTW, I have the mate to your 1800. Maybe we can make one runner out of two. The cylinder
looks good, but the piston is a little rough. And of course the oiler check valve is toast.

Aint wearing any shorts right now to get wadded up. Too freaking hot in MO right now. :msp_biggrin:

Just having fun with your opinions.....

Yea, it's a bit warm here, too. Hit 106 today, around 90 now. But we're uppity. We have A/C and use it. Have all the fun
you want. Last I checked opinions haven't been outlawed yet. I still like my orange & white thingy. I still also have respect
for those lime-green (and misc. other color) things, too. I've got 4 runners plus the 4620 in my garage at the moment. And
working on another. Got the duckbills yesterday so I can fix the check valves.

That's pretty interesting about that 1800 what are U askin for it I haven't even tore into mine yet bought it and the other one for five bucks at the fleamarket and I been lookin to get a good runnin top handle this might be a nice little project

You can have it for shipping. It might be missing a few small parts. I'll shoot you some pics after I get home.

Mark, I was going to say that the 025 seems tighter (if that makes sense) with closer tolerances in the fit of its parts. The photo you posted shows that "tighter" isn't always better. Kind of like a Luger and a Colt 1911.

FWIW, I'd say the toasted clutch is the result of improper maintenance. I can't believe that thing went up in
smoke with no warning. "Rode hard, put up wet" comes to mind. My personal opinion, you understand.

You got mail.

I haven't figured out a simple way to attach pics to a PM, so you're getting them here.

Here's part of them. The rest will follow. As you can see, it's pretty filthy.

here's some pix of the carb on my new 306A. is this the infamous "governor" type carb? cscc says its either a tillie HS-59A or B HS-198A. if so (or even if not) what are the advantages/disadvantages of the governor? also, i know i've seen comments on doing a work-around of the governor. how's that done. thanks, jerry

I left mine alone on the 306 and 245, they seem to run fine. I did have one saw, can't remember which, that I did the governor block off on. Maybe I'm not very sensitive but I really couldn't tell the difference.

Which would you prefer the most; 245A or 4400 ??

Two completely different cylinder configurations with only a 5 c.c. difference between them.......and about 2.5 - 3 lbs. of weight difference IIRC!??

The 245A has the bigger bore/shorter stroke combo vs. the smaller bore/longer stroke of the 4400. The 4400 has electronic ignition vs. points in the 245A.

The 4400 has the 'Counter-Vibe' and the 245A.....well it's probably vibe central!???

I'm sure there are folks here who currently own both models(running, mine aren't) or have in the past owned/operated these saws. I'd sure like to hear your impressions of the two and how they compare in power, handling, durability and whatever other facets you can think of.

Your input will help me figure out which saw to direct my efforts towards first. The 245A I have heard run....the 4400 was running last year at Thanksgving according to the previous owner.....not currently running. Plus the 4400 has that daggum unobtainium air filter assembly!! :frown:

Thanks in advance for any feedback and experiences you have had with these saws.
