You may remember I got up the courage and dumped an old weeping willow tree last Spring. I piled the remains out of the way to take care of later. Later is now. I burned part of it during a drizzly day a couple weeks ago, and the rest of the small stuff today. Humidity was low. I ignited it the basic boring way, with paper and kindling and my little blowtorch lighter. The kindling took off. I began building the column. It is important to "Get that column going."

The Used Dog was in a Fetching mood. In fact, that is all he wanted to do.
He didn't understand "NO, I'm not throwing the ball while I'm running the saw." He was determined and focused.

I started feeding the fire with the unburned stuff from the drizzly burn day.
Then yarded the rest over a bit at a time. No hair or eyebrow scorch although it was a bit warm while chunking.

Did you know that when we were young and stupid, we used to wear swim goggles on the big broadcast burns because, "You can stay in the smoke longer." ? And you could.
Well, finishing up time, more chunking and you can see what is left of the regrowth of the willow. The deer seem to like to munch on it. Perhaps they have headaches?

And, finally the obligatory saw picture. I think the Barbie Saw was a bit of overkill, but it is the only running saw here at home. I'll need to sharpen the chain because I just ran it down through the slash pile several times.

Are you sleeping yet?:)

I burned two slash piles this past weekend too. I got my collum going properly by stating each pile with a gallon of drip torch mix. Hot mis BTW. KAWHOOPH! Instant collum. No pics but more piles are already built for this week.
