Newbie question on being a "micro-grower"

I'm looking at my backyard in So. Calif. thinking, "I hate grass. Heck, I'm allergic to grass! But I like trees." So, I'm thinking that I'd like to start growing landscape trees from seeds as a new hobby and cut back on the lawn.

My plan (at this moment) is to start a variety of trees in pots (maybe 10 types, 10 each) and, when they get bigger, plant the ones I like and sell the rest. Not so much for profit, (although profit won't hurt), but I really hate killing trees.

So, I'd would like to know if there is a market for trees from a "micro-grower" and if so a little about how that market works.

I know this is a vague post but any comments or advice would be welcome.

I am going to try some similar on a small plot of land hoping to plant 500 to a 1000 tree in the end . I am not going to do the propagation . I planted around a hundred last fall , I want to plant 500 this fall mine will be all field grown . I just want to grow the tree till they are 1.5 to 3 inch caliper then sale them .

I guess I did not answer your question I think there is a market for micro grower . I think it is more on the end of rare plants that are hard to find ,usually grafted .

Thanks for your reply and good luck with your venture. Mine's going to be a lot smaller. 200 trees at the most. In your last post you said that it might work with rare plants. Any suggestions?

I want to grow mainly ginkgos . Sawtooth Oaks and Firs too.
