Norway Maple

Just a quick question for all the wood afficionados. I recently have the oppurtunity to get a bunch of this kind of maple. It fell down during an ice storm. Is it a hard maple or a soft? I'm used to using the harder stuff like oak and locust and wondered how this compared.
It's free so it's worth getting no matter what. Just looking for some opinions. Thanks

It's hard Maple; I have one in my backyard. Use it and enjoy it.

This stuff has a little center rot but for the most part it is solid all the way through.

One side of the tree split and fell on the neighbors fence. I heard this stuff is pretty brittle and thus prone to breakage. The crotch of the tree sure is filled with dirt and other such black matter. Probably very hard on a saw chain.

its about as hard as a silver maple, but good to mix it in with the hard maple

+1 I rarely see it in PA, but up here it is everywhere. Leaves are very similar to sugar maple, but have white sap if broken.

Any maple burns good, some just better than others.
