In my area, the only way to get the big money is to do large takedowns on dead trees that nobody else will do.

These machines would be practically perfect for that. Greater reach and maneuverability than a normal bucket truck. Too many pennies, though.

The MLE lifts are about the same price if not cheaper than the tuepens, they`re all pricy though....this lift looks like its set up for tree work a bit better than the competition!

longer, goes away from center the higher you go up. only plus was it was easier to get parts before Tepen opened factory in NC, USA. i flew out to minnesota to demo and if I liked it was going to trade in my teupen. still have my teupen and will be buying an additional soon.

pdqdl, is right on the money. you gotta invest in your company to see greater returns

they have their pluses and minuses over bucket trucks. that why I utilize a spider, 2 bucket trucks, and climbers

It's tough to justify the expense of these lifts, even though I'd like to get one. As an excellent climber and one who knows that climbing keeps me in very good shape, I also know from experience that a spider lift would only be absolutely necessary for, maybe, one out of twenty jobs. It's true that with a spider lift I might bid some jobs I now do not, but I don't want the pressure of working to cover monthly payments. I'm debt free, with no payments at all per month, and I like it that way. I honestly don't know how some of you guys go out and get a fleet of trucks, lifts, chippers, etc., and still sleep at night with all of those payments over your head. I can't do it. I guess it's maybe a question of, "dare to struggle, dare to win," but I'm comfortable with what I have. I just don't have that desire to struggle. Good luck and God bless those who do.

that thing is sweet, but if i had that kind of money i would put it towards a used crane and op. but that thing would sure be nice for the tight spots and its 74 ft thats taller than the bucket truck i have used which is only 60

I was told by someone who went to demo the MLE lift that it was a bad copy of the Teupen and they needed to work on it quite a bit more. I was interested in a taller lift that was at least as narrow as my 23GT. I really need about 90 ft. to be able to reach all the coconut palms. There are at least 50 among all my accounts that the 23GT is about 5 to 10 ft. too short, even parked right under it.

As far as the monthly payments go, the reason I bought the 23GT is because of a 3 year hotel contract that I got. I trim the coconut palms there 4 times a year. Each time, I get paid enough to make 7 payments on the lift. After I got the 23GT I picked up 3 more hotel contracts, but those 3 combined are only worth about 1/3 of the first one I got.

I got to use a genie lift a couple years ago while doing some work up at the Leavonworth VA hospital. It was nice just driving from tree to tree while 45' in the air. The only bad thing about it was that is didn't have a articulating (not sure if thats the right term) upper boom so you couldn't get up over a tree. That thing is high dollar but with 75' height and the ability to get thru most gates and inbetween other trees I could see a bunch of jobs that could be done with that. That would save a lot of wear and tear on the body as well allowing maybe more work to be done.

The things I question about it beside price is,
Can you extend the boom all the way out in every direction and elevation or is it limited on it's horizontal reach? It doesn't look very robust and I question if it can take the same abuse that a bucket truck with a headache rack can. Also it doesn't look like it has any electrical insulation on it which is not a must in most residential situations but still nice to have a little protection in case of a mishap.

Hello pdqdl.
I read your entire post it is too useful for me well I will give you reply later after gating all type of information.
Thanks.

For some of us, it is a struggle to just barely get by, even after we borrow money for just a few machines to scratch out a living.

such things as needed write-offs and being able to efficiently keep up with the work load are why a fleet of equipment is needed. You may be a good climber but I can gaurantee we produce with machinery at a minimum 5 times what any single climber can put on the ground. over 2mil in equipment which gets replaced every 3-4yrs and still have no crane.

Every company is different, we've been around since 1960 and grow larger every year. Started small with a pickup like the rest of you. Those who dont take calculated risks in business will not be able to expand. Some guys like staying small, some guys like to keep spreading their roots. What is right for your company is your move.

people here are too cheap.....................

to pay the money needed to justify that purchase.climbing is more fun.

I would of love to had that lift yesterday, I gave a job away to company with a bucket that only went 80'. It was a cottonwood that was in front of a deck and new house, my guess was that it was 110' tall and the branches that high were small but really in bad shape. my first attempt we drop five branches and the higher we went the more the branches exploded when they fell back to the main trunk. I gave up before something got damaged.:buttkick:

pdqdl in my mind is right to the more i invested the more i got in a return to. but that only goes so far thier is such thing as over exstension. once we got into trees no one else wanted to mess with we started making alot more money.

i will gladly do trees...

no one else wants to mess with.the problem is,then the price becomes the deciding factor.then they either leave the tree or take their chances with a lowballing hack and stuff gets busted up.

We just demoed the MLE this week. We noted several potential problems/limitations of this machine. Although the manufacturer does have the experience in making lifts, it is obvious they have not consulted tree care professionals in the design including lower and upper boom movements.

We were simply not impressed.

i would need to be REALLY impressed.it would have to make me a steak better than Ruth's Chris and lobster mashed potatoes better than Michael Jordan's while i am up there.
