I bought a new toy on eBay and one of the three nuts on the outside of the muffler are missing. Other than that everything seems to be fine.

Is this something that I should be able to find at a hardware store or do I need to go to the Stihl dealer?

Thanks in advance.

ps. $200 :D

Closed on Mondays! Tomorrow I guess.

I never noticed before but in a 2-3 block radius exist the following authorized dealers: Shindaiwa, Husqvarna, Stihl, Poulan, Dolmar.

The Husky, Dolmar, & Stihl are within stones-throw distances of each other.

You can get one at a hardware store no problem. I can't remeber the pitch, but if you took one with you you can match it up with a bolt and find the coresponding nut that way.

The problem will come when you want to take it off. They use a special coating on them so they don't corrode as bad or as fast. As Jeff mentioned, this is one for sure time it's worth spending a little extra!

Yeah. I don't mind paying a little extra for the correct pieces. Plus it gives me an excuse to wander around the shop!

OK, I am really trying to help you out here!! Go to the store, don't look at ANYTHING, go straight to the counter. DO NOT look at the pretty saws on the shelf. DO NOT ask "Well I was thinking about this....." or "How much is it if I do this........" "How much is this.........". NONE of these will lead to anything good! Get you're part and walk STRAIGHT out the door! Take you're wife/girlfreind/kids whatever, but DO NOT take a buddy with you!! Go home, put th saw together, post and tell us it went well. Then SMASH YOU'RE COMPUTER AND CANCEL YOU'RE INTERNET SERVICE!!! Never log on this site again, cut you're wood and be happy with what you have!! It's WAY to addictive on here!!

Sounds like a plan. On the way home I had my new saw in the backseat and my girlfriend noticed it.

She asked me, sarcastically of course: "You going to buy one of those cool skip-tooth chains?"

"I already did."

She then buried her face in her hands and told me I was obsessed! :D

I took an hour break from writing software to put the saw together and play with it. Can't wait to start work on those 2 70'+ fir's across the street this weekend!

5mm, but it is "special" in terms of being a flanged metric nut, and it uses a conical locking washer beneath, so get both from your stihl dealer.

Thanks Lakeside. I plan on leaving work for a little bit and heading to the dealer tomorrow.

Just cleaned up the latest toy and have everything sans flanged metric nut & washer. Can't wait to start cutting!
