Took a Month off of work and found myself working up a few Red Oak Trees on my families land. Took Down about 4 trees that were crowding or reaching mature age. Looks like there are close to 4 cords. Was around 10-15 degrees most days, a warming fire was very nice to have, along with some bench making and some white pine thinning(made into a bench). I have since split 2 cord by hand since taking these pictures. Will get to the rest soon. Now I've got 18-24 inches of snow to deal with to start at it....

Great looking firewood there!! Also a nice piece of woods you have.

These woods have been in the family long before I-95 came around. Have been selective cutting for generations.
Was All Pine till my great grandfather had all of it cut and milled in the 1950's. I still have boards made from those pine trees I make things with from time to time.

Just be aware that Oak that size if it is straight and clear is worth ten times more than anything else standing in that woods unless you have sugar maple of the same size and quality. I like oak firewood as much as the next guy but big oak has value that far exceeds firewood value and should be left to grow.

I do understand the value of saw logs, but at the same time once in a while a nice straight board quality tree ends up in the stove, either because of storm damage, or other reasons. I will send you some pictures when i have some saw logs done.
