There is a huge old oak tree on my property in East Texas. I noticed a branch's leaves were brown a month ago, but I was down there last week and the whole tree's leaves are brown. I checked several small branches and they were flexible. It is alone and only gets rain water. Is this a shedding due to drought?? Thanks for any help.

Not good. Not sure of the identity of the tree but it looks like a red oak. We were in drought conditions here a couple of years ago and had many oaks in similar distress that I was watching and none recovered.

Looks like a case of oak wilt to me, if so the tree is a goner. Sorry for your loss she was a beautiful tree. I hear oak wilt is a big problem in Texas.

Can ya get some shots of the leaves up close? Esp the ones that may have some green still in them.

Very sad.

That Oak definitely looks gone.

If you will post a picture of a representative leaf....we can tell you what kind it was.

Looks more like a big Post Oak to me than a Red Oak, (just judging by the trunk and shape of the crown).

In any case, its a shame to lose it. I've seen several like that recently in my part of Deep East Texas.

Flint.

I hope to have a couple of leaf pics in the next 3 or 4 days. Thank you everyone.
