I don't know if oak wilt is too close to my motte of 3 big live oaks. For years, my Central Texas neighborhood has been an oak wilt center.
My neighbor didn't know oak wilt existed but she had 3 sizable live oaks die "in the last year or two." I didn't see the leaves.
This year, 150 feet from her dead trees, a smaller motte had 1 of 3 live oaks die. None of the trees had/have symptomatic leaves. But the canopy is sparse. This smaller motte is 150 feet from my big motte (DBH 15 - 20 inches).
Photo 1 is the dead oak's trunk a few months after it died. The other photo is the sparse canopy of the small motte's survivors.
Does the small motte likely have oak wilt? Should I inject it and/or the big motte (both mottes were injected approx. 4 years ago).
Thanks in advance for your help.
