It's that time again to be out playing with the saws (chainsaw so I said it). Still too wet out but I am just champing at the bit to have a saw biting into a good stick again.

Been working over the past few weeks during breaks in the rain/snow/wind to get my wood storage sorted out. Had about 8 cord to move out of one bin over to the next so I can burn the oldest next season. Still have about 4 cord to do. Might make some progress today but it looks like the footing would be smeary around the piles.

Nice day today after a winter storm with 50-60 mph winds yesterday and the day before. Decided to make the trip to the wood patch for an eyeball. Too wet to get into it with the truck but I can see that one of the trees I was counting on this year is a no go. It is about 36" dbh and broken off around 10ft up, totally shattered stump so obviously no good for firewood. Couldn't see the log from the road though. That is the only loss I saw. An old snag with an eagle or large hawk nest in it is still standing somehow. It has been leaning almost 30 degree for years.

Maybe I need to wander out to the garage and fondle the saws.

I hear ya. I rebuilt three saws this winter(would have done more if I had the $$$) and I go out ever two or three days and start them up just to smell the smoke and hear them run. I only used 1/2 the amount of wood this year that I figured because of the mild winter, so I am in really great shape for next year. I might even be able to start selling here and there.

Our winter storm is coming tonight and tomorrow. I hope it is a doosie!

Ya'll are expecting a winter storm, too?

They way they're talking around here, this should read somewhere in the 70s by 3 in the morning.

(This at about 1800 CST or CDT, whichever one we're on now)

Those of us that choose to live in Northwest Minnesota really want to experience each season to the fullest. I want the strongest Summer, hardest Winter, vivid Springs and colorful Fall that God can give me. It lets me know I'm alive!

......OK, so there is a whole lot more of Winter. At least it teaches me to appreciate Summer that much more!
