Oil and mixes

I got bored today watching it snow. So I jumped in the truck and headed over to our local Stihl dealer to see what he was up to. I caught him not to busy, so we got to talkin. I told him about my new power ice auger and that now I need a can of 50:1 mix in addition to my 40:1 and my 32:1. He told me to use Stihl oil and mix it all 50:1. He told me about the high running temps of chainsaws and the flash points of 2 cycle oil. Seems if you use an oil with a high enough flash point, any 2 stroke will run on 50:1 with no problem. He told me he sends all new, used, and repaired motors out with 50:1 in the tank. Made pretty good sense to me. I knew outboard 2 stroke oil is not good for chainsaws because of the higher temps. So, what do all of you think? I haven't seen a thread on mixtures since I've been here.

I'd do a search on AS.. OIL MIX.. There's at least two a week..
And yes, 50:1 with stihl mix is fine in al stihl saws and OPE.

OK, I'm retired and it's still snowing. I'll go look through the threads. Does OPE cover homelites, macs, snowmobiles, and my off brand weed eater? Just thought I'd ask. I know - two a week, go look. Got it.

I wouldn't lose sleep about it. There's a LOT of cud-chewing on this board that gets rehashed on a daily basis, on topics that nobody EVER says to "use the search function" for! :yoyo:

I'm not going to do a search, but I do have a photogenic memory and I don't recall anyone that knows engines making a bold sweeping statement here like that. But my Stihl dealer told me that a few years ago and I've done it ever since.
