You might want to change the title to "Bar oil test thread- Project Farm" as I think some folks are exhausted with engine oil threads haha.

It was interesting to watch and the big takeaway for me is how different all the oils were. So many people always say bar oils are all the same. Well, it seems that's not true at all and they vary a great deal. Would love to see a round two with Amsoil, Supertech, Mystik, Itasca, STP, Fram, Powercare, etc.

Disappointed with the Stihl additive package and general performance.

One of my saw repair customers used to collect gallons of waste cooking oil that he obtained for free from a restaurant. His favorite pub was throwing it away in gallon jugs. He used that waste cooking oil in all of his chain saws for bar oil. Whenever he brought his saws into my shop they smelled like cooked onions. Amazing what some men will do to save a few dollars.

I have a 1 gal gas can that gets filled with mostly old oil from farm equipment. Currently it has a mix of 140w from the transmission on my Farmall H and some used 0W-15 synthetic from Mama Bears Subaru to thin it out a bit. I have run used fry oil before and it smells amazing !! I don’t think I’ve ever run actual bar oil in a saw. I’ve run a crap ton of mystery oils I get in random stuff lots at auctions. I don’t know what they exactly are or how old and I don’t want to put them in an engine so they get dumped into the chainsaw oil jug.

When running fry oil and lighter weight oils I fill the gas tank 2/3-3/4 full at most so it runs out before I run out of oil. I could adjust the oiler I suppose but this is simpler.

Project Farm videos have eaten a large chunk of time outta my life lol. The Diesel Creek channel has as well ….

Friend used to run his 12 valve Cummins on nothing but used veg oil . Smelled like French fries or chicken depending on where he got it from .

I've used the Oregon bar oil, my sample stank like gear oil, had no noticeable tack and no dye. Flowed like something in the neighborhood of 60 viscosity. Would not buy it again unless it was half price, it really did just seem to be be a low viscosity gear oil.

The regular, professional or old yellow label Oregon oil?

I use the '2 finger test' with bar oil, always. Put some between your fingers and separate them and if it 'strings out', it's good. The Menards cheapo bar oil, passes that test just fine. Kind of surprised about the high buck Stihl oil being basically crap.

He spent how much on 6 new bars and chains to run this test? What a clown, he could have just asked, we could have told him to just buy the cheap **** and be done with it.
Yeah thats kind of how it goes, at least he does the best he can to provide honest reviews, I have appreciated many of his videos over the years.

He should spend more time farmin' and less time You-tubin'.
You do realize that he's making BIG BUCKS from his YT video's and his 'Patreon' page. Like that Andrew Camarata, last year he made over 68 grand off you tube video's. His comment about how he buys all that stuff and receives no sponsorship from anyone, is a half truth at best because he buys all that stuff and probably pays his mortgage payment and bought that tractor he has from YT earnings.

For me, YT is nothing more than entertainment and I will say his 'tests' are informative for the most part but I like TTC (Torque Test Channel) much better. Little FYI there.
