old 12" drum chipper will not feed

The chipper would not feed or chip without applying a lot of pressure against the drum. After close inspection of the cutter bar and blades we found a broken cutter bar and the blades not adjusted correctly. So we had a cuter bar made and adjusted the blades correctly to the bore and the cutter bar to the blades (.020"), but the blades still will not grab the wood and pull it in. We did notices that entrance floor all the way to the cutter bar has a wide gap (1 to 2") from the blades. We tried putting a .032" gap between the cutter bar and blades but this still did not help. Any help would be welcomed at this point as we are at a lost. I can take pictures to anyone willing to help. Thanks
 
my old drum wouldn't pull wood in, extended the blades and lowered the bar to reestablish the gap, took care of that
 
pics would help alot. Yes if the anvil is up too high it won't pull in as well. I used to set mine just above the tray and it'd snatch limbs out of your hands.
Also make sure you blades have the right angle on them?

No feed rollers, the blades are not wide enough to adjust the blades to just above the tray. The blades are grooved on one side and so is the drum so I'm sure that they are in correctly as they only go in one way. Im no expert but the blade to bar angle does not look right? It may be how I am looking at em, can you lay a yardstick on the floor of the inlet near where the cutter would come down on it?

What brand chipper is that? I've had a Mitts and Merrill and an Asplundh and neither had a setup like that. Almost looks backwards with the anvil behind the infeed? What's up with that?

This is one of the problems we don't know who made it.
 
The blades are supposed to be replaced after a certain amount has been taken off, so maybe it's time for new ones? I still don't see how it works like that?
 
Wood chucks and others use those serrated knives. From what I know is there should be three serrations showing from the drum edge (you should see 3 groves when the knife is mounted). Then you adjust the cutter bar to it. I think the bevel for the knife edge should be 40 degrees also. If you have to remove the knifes you may want to use some heat on the jib bolts so the come out easier.

After looking at those pictures with the ruler going under the cutter, but not resting on the bar, I dont see how that thing ever worked? I swear it looks like it was taken apart and put back together backwards?
