OLD 1970s briggs and stratton log splitter

I have an old 1970s briggs and stratton 10hp log splitter i just replaced the cylinder with a g-force 2 1/2 inch bore 1.25 rod 2500psi. When i push a good size log into the splitting wedge it just stops the engine bogs down a little does not die. The pressure release handle when i go all the way to the down position sometimes the cylinder does stop. Have no idea what size pump it is or how many GPM, the pressure release handle is a CROSS or thats what is says on it. Any ideas would be great
