Can anyone steer me to a video or showing the break down and seal repair on out riggers on the altec lr3 sure would appreciate it! Thanks!

I do all my own maintanence, but I always take my hydrolic work to a shop. They give you a warrenty and the outriggers look like a b*tch to get out. Mine slowly creep down when the truck sits for a while, so I am gonna take mine to the shop and get them to fix them.

Yep, seems to be a common problem, some people have put pins in so they will hold them in place, I know a few people that have done that around here.

What do you mean they put pins in them can you explain?

The hydralics on your bucket truck is not something you want to be a cheap ass about. If it fails while your up in the bucket, most likely you will die. Take it to a shop and have a knowedgeable person fix it.

to hold the outriggers up while their not in use like a pin on an extendable leg on a table. if you have to do this your obviously extremely cheap and don't value your life because if its saging common its what keep the truck upright be cheap on the chrome not the out riggers.

Just make sure it's a good shop, over the years I'm getting more and more leery of mechanics. Seems they make just as many mistakes as I do when working on stuff.

Ask around and find someone that only works on hydralics and has a good reputation. There is 2 local shops here. The closet one never seems to have fittings when I need a hose repaired. There other one always has what I needs. They fixed my dump cyclinder on my dump trailer a few years ago. The top seal leaked a little fluid out the vent after i got it back. They had to make a new piston for the cyclinder. They fixed it for free because they didnt get it right the first time. Never had a problem with that cyclinder again.

I have a couple outriggers that sag on my LR III (only sometimes). I'm thinking it's not a safety issue, and they only sag DOWN when sitting.. I can leave it jacked up overnight, come back in the morning, kick the pads, and it never loses anything. I think the problem might be in what's called a "check valve", not sure on that though, but it seems like the valve only loses pressure the one way.

Order the seal kit from them and then rip it apart.I did them on my Aerial Lift of Connecticut. The ones I did just had a ring clip you pry off then the whole inner shaft pulls out with a lot of effort. If you get in over your head you can always bring it to a shop but make sure you have the parts first.Call and speak with who sells them and get the parts and maybe a tip on removal.

Yeah they were there when the guy i was working with bought the truck. It rarely ever did it, but they were there. I value my life and they were checked out and fine.

For sure, that's why I don't work with the guy anymore. Another company I know around here that i have done some work for had a close call last summer as well, they were driving down the highway and one guy that climbs for me and him was in my truck noticed the passenger side one almost all the way to the ground! We quickly got him pulled over and raised it up, he apparently left the yard without checking. MTO would of had a hay day with him! Scary stuff for sure! That owner got it fixed after that. He was ahead driving his truck.

How does me asking the guy what he means buy using pins make me cheap and and not value my life?:confused2::rolleyes2::msp_confused::msp_thumbdn:

I not that complicated to pull the rod outta a cylinder , once you remove the spanner ring or nut , you remove the rod with all the seals and wipers on them , you will however need to pull off the Huge Gainer Nut on the bottom of the rod and that poses the biggest problem of all at times The wiper and seal kits usually are less than then a quarter of the price of new or even rebuilt just make sure that you put all the seals back correctly because if you mess up one thing your beat and the spanner nut , make sure you NEVER NOT FOR A MILISECOND cross thread it or the can is trash , I Mean your done ...

Thanks for the input i believe i can get the cylinder kit from altec for 135 dollars per side ! Idid notice the big retaining pin at the top of the tube looks like it might be tough to get out for clearance reasons .
