During a flood a few years ago, this remnant of an old growth cedar got picked up off a creek bed and floated into the culvert screen under a bridge in town. A guy from the city reached out to me asking if I wanted it since it was a cool piece. It’s been sitting and I’ve wondered what to do with it since it’s such an awkward piece of wood. I decided to just cut it and try for the largest, 1 piece of wood I could. This was the outer edge of what I’d assume was a 8’ cedar tree at some point. In about 12” there was roughly 150 years of growth. The grain is tight and smell and color are unlike any cedar I’ve cut before. Very cool piece! This is a western red cedar if anybody was wondering, most common species in this area along with Douglas fir.

It came out better than expected! I’m planning on doing the other half this weekend. Hopefully turns out just as nice!
