I have an old McCulloch 1-41 or something. Looks like the 1-41 because of the stub of an exaust instead of a canister. The Carberator is a big blocky looking thing. Might be a Tillotson, but there is no lables or markings. The needle & seat are bad I think. The diaphram doesn't have a hole but is streached out some. The filter area & gasket & cloth like reed valves in that section of the carb look like new.
Starts but chuggs down enough gas to drown itself after a few seconds. The High & Low speed adjustment screws don't do much. The High Speed actually makes a difference to get things started..lean it out to start.
Any ideas where those type vintage parts are available? Even better can a later style carb be retro fitted? Maybe those later versions of the 80cc saw had a more sophisticated carb?
If I'm on the wrong track with my diagnosis..please chime in. Pride not an issue here....lost it years ago. I've seen motorcycle two strokes act like this when the reed valves were shot. The air charge would cycle back and forth over the venturi section of the carb and continue to pick up fuel....until the thing drown.
Thanks in advance for you thoughts.
