I am working on an old FS-80 weed eater with the slide carb on it. It has two jets, both are brass and one has a rubber seal and the other is just spring loaded. I was wanting to know is the spring loaded jet a pre-set jet where you screw it in all the way or do you need to set it. I hope that I have explained the subject enough so someone can answer my question.

Set that screw all the way end. If you are having fuel trouble go ahead and prepare yourself to purchace a new carbuator...

That is your high speed adj. screw, I am having a hard time remembering
the initial setting, it is 1 1/2- 2 1/2 turns out. I will look through some old manuals and see if I can be more specific.
You will not find a carb for that trimmer, as it was N.L.A. a long time ago.

If Fish strikes out, I have a manuel for that FS 80 too. I just got mine running last month, had it over to the Sthil dealer two or three years ago, it didn't run much better when I finally got it back, I finally took matters into my own hands with all this new found knowledge from AS and tools I have been buying and put them to good use and got that baby running sweet. My problem was not getting enough to the carb, that pimer bulb was the culprit, bypassed it with a new fuel line going directly from the tank to the carb. No issues now, I have always like that trimmer, I think it is a nice well built trimmer myself for the size it is. Looking forward to using it again, this summer.

Who made that carb for Sthil ??? Definately a different kind of carb.

It is a TK carb, like the ones on the older Shindaiwa and Green Machine
trimmers, I will have to post back on the settings. I played hooky today, and went job hunting.

Thanks for the reply.

I screwed the top jet all the way in, and then adjusted the bottom accordingly. It runs good on this setting, but if it is not correct I would like to set the carb right. I had to replace everything on the fuel system including the prime bubble which was around ten dollars. The old prime bubble did not check right and would not let the fuel pass when the carb was trying to pull the fuel.
