Have their been any real improvements in saws say in the last 15 or 20 years.I have a husky 61 good shape ,new jug and piston, would a new 60 cc husky cut any better.?Diddly things like side adjust dont mean much to me.

I've got a 61 also, which was rebuilt. I also have a Stihl 039, which I believe is a couple of years old. They are about the same size engine and weight and I can't see much difference between the performance, course I've only been seriously sawing for the last 5 months, so I don't know what I'm talking about. The starter rope is a lot harder to pull on the Stihl, but that might be a good thing.
Probably a little more vibration to the Husky. I keep losing bar nuts. I'm sure all the manufacturers have improved vibration control in the more recent models.

Thanks. I hope I didn't make a fool of myself on my first post. I've been hanging around here for a while, just had nothing to say that wasn't better said already.
I can't come up with a response to the loosing my nuts comment that doesn't make me sound like an idiot, so for once, I'll just shut up.

Saws have improved, particularly since the Early 80s.

Power wise your 61 was advanced for it's time. It would mainly not be as smooth as todays models. In its weight/chassis size it would have to go up against a 372 today, not contest; even against a 363, still, no contest.

its kinda a mixed bag in my opinion..
of the top handle saws ive had..
the homelite super 2 was the fastest little saw ive used .. with proper set up the cs 3000 ewcho [new] was its equeal.
but the homelite just quit on me so i sold it, as it was worth only 30 or so bucks running..2 poulan 25 saws were also just a hair under the homelite ,,but far as i know are still running..
the 028 stihl is in my opinion equeal to the 026 .. heavier for cutting fire sticks better.. but not near as easy as the 026 in tree wk..both excellent in my opinion..
an echo 650evl 64cc not comparable to say the 036 at 62 cc.. an 66cc farmsaw not comparable to he olympic 962 at 62 cc.. the newer saws are lighter with better poiwer to wt ratios.,as the 650 echo an the farmsaw were much heavier..then theres the partner 500 an old saw which at 49 cc edged ot any saw i had at that cui..of course it was old [possibly bored out ] and ran an narrow kerf chain..
as to brand new non adjustable saws [a least by me] ill let others find out about them..
yep i think they have improved.. and i got a 372 xp power ported that thinks so also..:)

I've got Jonsered 625; same as Husky 61 but in a pretty red dress. This is a fine saw for the folks that just need an all-round saw. Pretty heavy to use for trimming the orchard, and maybe a little light to knock down 40 acres' worth of big white oaks, but a good, tough, durable saw.

I'm trying to talk my dealer into getting me a new 2156, same saw as husky 357xp; he offers a nice price on the less powerful 2159 because he's got them on the shelf, but wants full retail to get a new 2156 in right now. I test drove the 2159 last fall at the dealer open house day, and will say that it probably has very nearly as much grunt as the 625, but is at least a pound lighter.

I'd expect the 2156 to kinda shame the 625; I want one pretty bad. Look good parked next to the 2040, 2149, 2055, 621, 625, and 670 in the stable.

Ta, you didn't make a fool of yourself......I was just doing a lil' "ball breaking" with the "nuts" comment. If you want to see someone who made a fool of themself do a search for Canadian Huskies. Let me know if you still feel foolish after reading some of the posts in that thread.
Anyhow how's life in the Watertown area? Kinda cold?

Jeff

TA not to worry you got to jump right into this swamp let the muck pull your shoes off and squeeze between your toes.

I don't know what happened, but I make a first post and then I couldn't get into the site for the next day or so. Did I screw something up? Or was it here on my end? Actually, I've hanging around here for so long that I didn't even realize it was my first post till Jeff mentioned it. And I knew you were kidding. As I've mentioned in other places, sometimes my humor is so subtle that it actually ceases to exist.
So anyways, I guess the bottom line is, the 61 hangs in there pretty good with the new saws.
