hi everyone, just want to say i absolutely love this site, its awesome and im on here reading things every day. My father has an older husky 51, and over the past year or so it just won't idle right. It has a clean air filter, everything else seems in check, but do these saws have an intake boot like a stihl? Do they commonly go bad on this saw, or does someone think it could be fuel line or crank seal related? I really have never had a husky apart, i mostly get into stihls, because thats what i have the most access to. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It would be a good idea to asses the overall condition of the saw. Start with the cheap stuff. How does compression feel when you pull the rope? Pull the mufler and inpect the piston and what of the cylinder you can see for scoring. Husky fuel lines are easy, check them out. Make sure your fuel filter is not clogged up. Make sure that your intake screws are tight. Check your spark plug gap, or change it, they're cheap. I'm assuming you've attempted to tune the carb. If not, they are many threads on the site that explain the process. If none of that works, it may be time for a carb rebuild. They are easy, cheap, and generally make all the difference. Once you've done those things and the saw is still running poorly, then its time to worry about vacuum leaks. Let us know what you find! The guys here are really helpful!
