Stil 015 AV points saw

Sorry for attaching to this old Thread but its the only way I can ask my question. Would the points and condenser affect the running of the saw and not just its starting? This points saw just won't rev up very high or smoothly. I switched the plug and carb from my 015 electronic but same issue. My electronic saw revs great but the points saw just isn't comparable. I removed and cleaned the points , reset them at .015, but the same issue. Wonder if its time for a NOva Module.

Hey bob. I messed with a few of these a while back. Did you do a carb kit to the points saw? If so, then your right where I was before I nova moduled it. Sold it shortly after running well. I may have a few parts for 015s here. Let me know if you need some.

I had an 010 that would start and run for five seconds, then act like it was starving for fuel. The spark wouldn't jump a quarter inch gap, but would look ok in the .020" plug gap. I found the points were gapped at about .040". I reset the point opening to .016" and got a stronger spark that would jump the 1/4" gap. The saw ran good afterwards.

Yea, I rebuilt the carb and even swapped one from a great running 015av. Same result. Point gap set at .015 and I get a strong spark. Baffled to say the least, though I may look at the clutch and sprocket as a last resort.

I just nova moduled an 028wb with points. It had similar issues as your describing with the 015. The module immediately cured all symptoms. I think you'd be better to go with the module. Just my 2.. Best of luck with it. Great little saw, I love mine ;)
