on the stihl 066 redeye

i think to the right of the sparkplug there is a sliding door about 3/4inch by1 inch (approx)

is that for winter summer use, to allow hot engine air to prevent carb freez

that door might be by the airfilter, but i think it's by the spark plug,

my tool's in the shop, so i can't check and see

btw, what 2 years were the redeye produced ?
 
Timberturner I have a red eye but have never noticed the opening you talk about but I will look when I get to the mill tomorrow. I don't know if they made the red eyes two years I think it was less than one year maybe someone else can clear that up.
 
heated air door

Yes, it is for cold weather when the air filter frosts up. Some had a flip open door on the cylinder shroud, the newest version is just an open hole. You shut it off by a black slide in door on the air filter cover. Top hole for warm weather, bottom for cold. Don't seem to give a lot of problem unless the snow starts getting high on the trunks of the trees.
