ugh, an oversight. ....UGH.....
so, Kyler M just pointed out that the stihl 360 has a very small flywheel side seal pocket. its tiny. so its not possible to have a single sleeve to work on this particular model and all the other stihl and husky saws. i'll work on it and keep everyone up to date.
the tool as is should work fine on 346xp, 359, 372, 394/5, 3120, 262xp, 288.... stihl 660 880. it certainly will be adaptable to others without much trouble.

Made something very similar a few year ago to pull the crank into an original EZ. It does work very well. Normally, I warm the bearing and get it on the crank first, then warm the housing and the bearing and crank slides right in.
No need to warm anything here. Goes together at room temp

I'm gonna have 20 sets made for the initial run.
I don't think the tool has enough possible buyers worldwide to warrant any protection. It'll last many cycles...and how many worldwide are putting cases together? 1000? So it probably isn't worth spending $ protecting it....but I appreciate the thought. Plus...the idea is that you can diy the tool if you want. No hard feelings if ya do

Very clever design. If one is really good with the lathe, one wouldn't even need the left-hand taps to make a one-off diy copy.
An alternative to the aluminium sleeve would be 3/4" DOM tube. A little stronger where it's narrowed down -- may be a better option for those Stihl saws with tiny seals?

I haven't torn a saw down to the crank yet but that is genius.... reminds me of a cam bearing installer we use on old mopars
Need a narrower tube for the stihls...or an adapter of some kind....I'm gonna sell the initial run...then see if I can mod it. Thanks yall.
So as an update, the entire first run of tools is spoken for. I used one of the 20 initial sleeves to prototype the 2nd run. ...so I have 19 initial tool sets that were available and now are spoken for.
I already have 3 people in for the 2nd run, which will include a sleeve with a couple adapters so as to do all of the major stihl and husqvarna saws. The stihl saws ..in particular the 044 ...have VERY tiny seal pockets...19mm. so I have to have an adapter machined to that spec. I already have the prototype and will be testing it asap. I don't know if the next set will hit the same price point.... I'm having the threaded rods machined on long island and I'm being given a nice guy rate for the first few.
If anyone wants in on the 2nd run let me know and I'll put them on the list. For those that are on the initial list I'll keep you updated here. I'll hopefully have more of an idea of true ETA at the CT gtg... May 6th....when hopefully I get delivered some of the threaded rods

Made pretty much the same thing years ago for this kind of work. My threaded rods are made to be held in a vice so everything is solid and still one hand free. Nice design.

I guess you could use mine by hand too. Always liked it in the vise. Nothing too fancy.
Your idea is like a hybrid between walts and mine. Always interesting what people come up with. Looks like you still need an open ended wrench....but at least you are putting pressure on the inner race instead of the outer. I wanted something that I could use a socket on...and you wanted something you could stick in a vice.

I always thought about welding legs on the pull nut, but was lazy. Would make it tool less.
