Is that the company on youtube doing a big cottonwood?
No I don't think they are the same company. I know who your talking about though. I think something happened to them.

Every day in kevlar pants, hi-vis long sleeve, sunnies and hard hat with muffs and mesh, I've been using just steel toe boots for a year or so but thought better of it and now back to chainsaw climbing boots. Gloves make your hands soft so I save them for those special times
I must be doing it wrong. I wear gloves nearly all day.
Shook hands with a city slicker the other day and he said something about having a working man's hands.

Haha. He did have a pretty mushy handshake.

Prolly just yer flat out chainsaw yielding hand strength squished his pen pushing buttons tapping puny paw !!!!

I'll make him use the other hand to write the checks! Kinda like at the bank, I walk in all dirty and stinking of diesel and 2 stroke. They look at me with disdain, I can feel. The attitude changed darn quick when I have a big stack of $$ to put in the account.

One time the teller man suggested I should hire him on. I told him I doubted he'd make it to lunch even, never mind a full day!

I just thought it's the way you work , apparently after working with my buddy I realized he couldn't give 2 Shitz about gloves glasses or a helmet , 24 prolly won't see 40 at his rate

a very stark comparison but he has a hard head , so hopefully it's hard enough to keep the blood from dripping out his ears

I have noticed some Craigslist ads lately for some local tree clowns, complete with pics of them in action. Im not gonna take the time to look up the pics but they clearly show this guy climbing a big cottonwood with spikes, saddle and steelcore flip line and no climbing line all with out a brain bucket. What are these guys thinking? I used to work for a guy who refused to wear PPE of any kind. He would chip brush in just running shorts, running shoes, a tank top and his rose colored glasses. He would look like he had been attached by a pissed off bobcat at the end of the day. He honestly believed that it made him look tough, manly and a bit of a rebel. I have subbed for a bunch of these kinds of guys for years and it still baffles me. I have come to the conclusion that most of these guys just dont give a crap and its not my job to convert them. I can make a suggestion that they do the safe and smart thing, if they take my advise then right on. If not? Oh well, its not my name on the side of the truck. I do take the time to feel sorry for these poor ignorant bastards, but not much.

I pretty much wear all my stuff except for chaps. We put on our hard hats when we get out of the truck and we wear them until we get back in the truck...no excuses (unless maybe you're taking a break in the shade or something). Even when you're raking...what if you left a hanger that you didn't notice and the wind blows it down on you.

As far as that ad goes....I just ignore that stuff. I don't go out of my way to beat anyone's price. I even tell the customer to get more estimates and go with who they feel most comfortable with. We don't advertise at all. We don't even have a "land line" or our name on our equipment. We used to run ads, etc. but we're the oldest company in our area, we have a reputation, and...knock on wood....we always have plenty of work. Also...in this area...if you don't know me, you probably know someone who does or at least knows how to reach me. I know a lot of people and am involved in the community, etc. I'm not playing this price game.

I wear the proper PPE, I work w/one or two companies though and it's not enforced, not my company can't do anything about it.

I was taking down a big burly spruce tree the other day and it was just me and my groundie. About half way through the removal we got some much apprecieated ground relief to help drag brush. These guys were from a friends brothers concrete crew who he sometimes gets extra labor from. So they show up and Im about halfway up a 75 ft spruce when I look down and see these guys in my drop zone talking the Mike. I have to come down from the tree and explain to these guys in Spanish that we are glad they are here to help but they need a hard had. I had to walk across a snowy field to the bucket truck and dig around to find two old brain buckets and then bring them back to the work site. They reluctantly put them on only after I told them again in Spanish that no brain bucket, No work!! We got that Big Boy taken down and cleaned up before dark. I did however have to have a little talk with the guy that sent us the help. He now knows that if he sends some of his amigos to help us they need to bring at least a hard hat and safety glasses or else I WILL send them back. I would rather trudge through a job short handed than have some one on my work site thats not wearing the propper PPE.

I agree if it's my company, I'm just there to climb, I give good advice such as when I'm in the tree you watch out for me, I don't watch out for you, meaning if I'm running the saw be aware of what I'm doing. Because I've enough to worry about w/stationary objects like the house etc. Let alone looking out for grunts who should be aware of my actions. That's what they taught me way back when I was w/union line trimming outfit.
