Open Source CNC Router for rough cut wood slabs

I am attempting to build a 8'x4' CNC router specifically designed for rough cut wood slabs. I have launched the project on kickstarter.com. Any feedback, positive and negative is welcome and needed. Support is always welcome!

sounds like you want a lot of money to try and re-invent the wheel. Whats wrong with a shop bot or any one of the other cnc routers? I have a friend with a shop bot and it works just fine on rough slabs, you just have to be creative with your fixtures.

Can't look at your proposal from work but as the previous said there's quite a bit out there already. If you look at the mechmate design I'd think you'd just have to extend the travel of the z-axis from the standard design to handle big slabs (MechMate CNC Router Forum - Powered by vBulletin). Those have been modified as plasma cutters, foam cutters, etc already. There's kits for some for some of the parts and plenty of advice on where to get others. A guy down the road from me has been slowly putting one together for the last several years.
