What are peoples thoughts, opinions, and experiences with the efco 956? Haven't been able to find too much info on it. Is this still a current model? It looks very similar to the 156?

You mean an Olympyk 956 ? Made by Efco, dates back about 10 years.

Several threads on the Efco/Oly/JD 56 cc saws.

It is a pro saw, but build on the same case as the 62 cc saw, so it weighs just as much. For the weight, you might as well step up to the 62 cc (or 65cc, currently) model.

The air filter is the weak link on Efco saws. It's too coarse to keep out fines, plus fines leak around the edge of the seal. Otherwise they are decent saws.

Whats the HP and weight? Is it like the 156 which is 4.1hp 12.1 lbs?
It is similar, but not exactly the same as the current 156. The newer Efcos have slightly different styling, but the basic engine is the same.

Going by the pictures, your 956 looks identical to the Olympyk saws, so I'm guessing it was made in the late 90's. The seller may be able to give you a date, since some Efcos had a date of manufacture sticker.

Manufacturer's HP/weight specs are taken with a grain of salt.

I have the John Deere badged version. They are an outstanding saw.
Very close to the Stihl 361 in performance. I own both a 361 and the efco, the difference is almost nill. After two years of hard use we have had zero issues with the efco. It's truly a pro grade saw. I would buy another in a heart beat if the price was right.
