In your opinion; what was the most gutless saw ever built by Stihl including or bigger than the 017?

For its Class Size or Overall? :blob2:

any for that matter. I am looking for the saw that disapointed you most. I want a project. I want to take a gutless wonder and see if it cost effective to make a good saw out of it. The reason I want a concessus on this is that it will most likely lead to "inexpensive" parts saws and a good challange.

019 comes to mind first, basically a good saw just not much power. Second that comes to mind is the 020T when they first came out to replace the old style metal cased 020's. Maybe I got a lemon on that one it was hard starting and just didn't seem to have the punch like the old one's did. It was the only 020 I ever subjected to ground work, from 40 ft up in a tree. :D

In my opinion it would have to be the 029 For its weight it was very disappointing. :blob2:

Yeah, what? A gutless Stihl? I've seen/heard alot of guys bagging on the 290/310/390 set. I get the impression they're seen as big homeowner saws trying to hang with 026's and 036's and falling short. That said, I had a 310 that I was quite happy with. Got the 361 now and even happier.

By the way, I hung that 056 Super jug/piston today that I bought from you a while back. Can't wait to get that saw up and running.... I might need a muffler from you though...

Take care all,
Jeff

"Gutless Stihl"

I would think the Stihl guys would say that is a oxymoron.

I need to quote myself to clarify my post before I am jumped on. In no way does the name Stihl indicate the product is better than any else. Every company made some real junk saws. I guess from my expierience the most gutless Stihl was a 009 but I probably expected it to do more than waht I should have.

i had a lawn jockeys 009 on deaths door in a day.there a p.o.s in anyones books.a similar story is a 345 what a joke  any husky over a year old workwise is soon to be or not far off being something to get rid of a.s.a.p.like when people say "my 372 is a BIG saw" LOL.everyone thought 268s etc were so good, now you cant give them away

a lopa, easy now. Get in the shade and drink some water. The 009 and 345 are great homeowner saws that have a loyal following here. The little Stihl has good torque and barks like a big dog. It is popular with framing contractors. My 345 is my regular use saw and it sees some tough days.

sorry i forgot how ball tearing the 345 was/is,i wear all my ppes with that bad boy
