Optimal Bar Size according to manufacturer???

I've noticed while looking at many different brands of saws that manufacturers seem to reccomend an optimal bar size. It is my understanding, as well as first hand knoledge that the shorter the bar, it seems that the saw is harder to bog down, or in other words you have more power than you might need for a particular length of chain. It also seems to cut faster, but anywhy, I'm thinking that this is some sort of safety issue. Does anyone know?

I believe the manufacture's are advertising there saws with the largest bar it will pull effectively. I like to put a 16" bar on my 044 to buck firewood makes quick of it.

Thats why stihl reccommends a 20'' bar on their 660??????????

The Bar length recomendations has MUCH more to do with "kickback" testing than reality in use..

Sure, let's put a 21 inch bar on the 880...
