The Stihl part number for this bar, if it helps, is 3003-000-8822 Thats for a 3/8 .050 gauge bar.

Thanks!

I have just bought a second hand 036 for chopping firewood. It runs great but the 16" bar and chain are about shot. I was wanting to get a bigger bar as we have had some big wind here in UK and I have chance of loads of firewood but some of these trees that are down are quite big.
Is a 20" bar good for 036 and if so, which would be the cheapest option, what would be the part number and what chain would go with it?? I am finding it a bit of a nightmare trying to match the right parts with the right saw!!!

Thanks again!

Phil

Oh, and also:
When I first bought the saw I saw a chain advertised on ebay and bought it. It said 3/8" chain for 16" bar, which is what I thought I had. It came and didn't fit but I couldn't persue it as I thought I was wrong. The chain came new and boxed with part number SQ3997-000-1640/55E. I can find no reference on the web to this part number and seems to me it isn't even a number for a chain is it??? Does anyone know this chain and what it will fit???

Fiah an a Oldsaw

If one of you would post Old bar numbers Stihl used in the past it sure would help me. I turned down a good price on a stihl bar number 3003-000-8822 for my 036 because Stihl list bar #3003-000-8921 in their catalog. Are the bar studs the same on models 040----015??. This information may be a help to others also.
Is there a cross reference chart or book on bars that will work on different make of saws.

Thanks
JR

8822 is a good bar for the 036.  If you can still get the good deal, jump on it.

It's the 11-tooth-nose solid bar with replaceable tip.  The 8921 is the laminated bar with 10-tooth nose and a much more pregnant profile.

I should add that the same bar mount (3003-) is shared by all saws starting with the 024 up to and including the 066.  It's Stihl's medium-size pattern.

Thanks Glens
Your explaining how the 3003 in the Stihl bar line works is some thing I did not know.(024---066) The 8822 bar is history gone.I will not let a good deal get away again I know now.

My Acrobat reader could not find the information. Every thing on the page was just black dots. Hope there is a way I can get it.

Hope others can add to this. I am learning and learning is good for the mind it keeps it active.

I just tried 4 different programs to read that file, one of them being adobe acrobat, and everything's fine in the file.  Maybe try saving it to disk and opening it from there?

i run a 20" bar on my 034 super which is about the same power as your 036. it works great for me. i am running .325 pitch chain.

Glens.

You wouldnt have the rest of that chart for the larger stihl saws you could send me would you??

thanks

In the tips.pdf file, the last entry on the first page is described as a 20" bar but that's a typo, it should be 24", all the other numbers on that line are right.

The full document from which they were pulled is dated May 9, 2001.  The bar listings are available at any Stihl dealership and are usually included in a box of chain.  If you want to get a current version stop by a dealer and visit with them.
