I've done some searches but still not sure. What is the difference between the LP and LG. I know the LG has the ramped depth gauge and LG has the bumper. What does that mean in terms of performance? From the search it seemed everyone liked the LG better. Why is this? Is the bumper safer? And, would you run the same with 3/8 and .325?

Also someone said the LP was soft and didn't hold an edge as well, is this still true?

And while I'm at it, how does the Number of teeth on a sprocket affect the way the saw cuts and if you change sprockets will you need to adjust the number of links in your chain?

If it is needed to answer these questions, the wood being cut is mostly Oak and Hickory.

Thanks,
Doug

I do not normally deal with Oregon chain, but I may be able to shine some light on your question.

I have in front of me a loop of Oregon chain that shipped with a new Jonsered 2186. It is marked on the package 72LGJ 084X. It has the ramped depth gauge but not the additional bumper type link. I believe this is the closest thing you will get from them today as full chisel, full pro chain.

I believe that years ago the LP came with normal non-pro depth gauges and no other safety features. In other words, it was the most pro chain you could get. Apparently the designations have changed.

It looked to me that the only thing different was the rakers on the two. LP was bigger and LG was ramped. Does the ramped design allow for less drag (less surface area) on the wood?
