What do you guys do about painting old saws that you are redoing? Do you just try to match up the original paint color as best as you can? Do companies sell their own paint colors? (like Stihl orange, old Homelite blue and red, Husky orange, Poulan green and yellow, Mac yellow, etc)

I don't know if saw companys sell there paint.
If you cannot find out, You can always take a part of the saw you want the color for and go to a place that mixes paint for cars.

The local NAPA store can match any paint color. They have a gun type rig that they point to the paint and can sell a spray can for about $15. A friend has used them several times and it does an exact paint match

Can they match paints with metalic flake in them, like say the old homelite blue?

Stihl gray and orange are available though any dealer. Really nice Polyurethane paint. I got a very close orange from Home depot in the rustoleum line, but it's just ordinary enamel. stihl has changed their "orange" slightly a number of times over the years so it pays to check. It's been pretty consistent for the past 10.

paint

was wondering that myself. I just get rustoleum etc as close as i can for mine. seems to work ok but i have not done any high end o correct restorations. To answer the question i have seen pioneer and mcculloch paint in cans but at 30-40 years old i doubt it would be any good.:buttkick: :jawdrop: :yoyo:
