I'm interested in growing an Osage Orange fence row as part of a wind break in an old field by my house. It'll stretch about 175 yards. I'm having trouble finding a descriptive way to go about doing it effectively. I figured this was the best place to find some answers.

Thanks.

It's a great tree/weed (depending on where it's grown), matter of fact if it's my favorite tree. I have a great deal of respect for it.

As far planting try to find another hedge row or stand of hedge trees and pick as many hedge apples as you can. Let the fruits go thru a couple cold cycles, like sitting it outside a few cold nights, then break apart the apples. Mix all the seeds/chunks up so you get a good mix. Store them over the winter. In spring till the area that you want to plant them and then just throw out the seeds and chunks of apples over the tilled area. Till it again and they will start sprouting. After about mid summer pull out the one's you don't want (if you want a nice spread hedge row) or just let mother nature do it's own natural selection and after a few years you'll have a thicket of them.
