since there is not a local saw dealer near me that i can stand......and we need a bunch of new saws, and such deals can be had online.

what needs to be done to properly set up an out of the box saw? specificly husky's.

Pick your oil ratio, hopefully 32:1, and set the saw up so that it 4 strokes when not loaded in the cut. If you have a tach see what your free revs are at. I believe most shops set them up at about 500 to 1,000 rpm below max. After a few tanks you should be able to slightly lean it out to pick up some rpm. This is provided that the saw still 4 strokes.

If there is a better way let me in on the secret! ;)

i guess i'm real ignorant about setting a saw up. how do you know if the saw 4 strokes?

my main concern is the saws running too lean out of the box. i've run a 357 and 385 out of the box........(hey i'm a climber not a saw guy) and the 357 lasted about 6 months the 385 about a year. i have a 288 thats about 5 years old and still runs strong. so if any one has time to explain it to me i'll owe you some beer.

I sent you a name of a dealer out your way. He has a very good reputation for service and quality. Let me know if you do not get the email.

Later,
Chris

Make sure that fully adjustable carbs on saws manufactured after 1985 have both adjustments 1 turn out or slightly more, saws with limiting caps just turn them out as far as they'll go, and then adjust from there with the saw running. When a 2-stroke engine "4-strokes" it sounds like a VW engine at full rev.

aaaa ummm the last two VW motors I hear at full rev sound nothing at all like a chainsaw...... One was a bit yellow like a bumble bee and the owner was cherping the tires 1,2,3 and the other one was copper. Looked like somebody shot the front end with 6's (that a shot size for those who don't shoot). And Last I hear about that one they were pulling out the 460 to put in a ranger seems the bug ended up on its top halfway across the intersection.....

Where exactly are you in Orange County? I am in Beacon,NY and would show you how to set your saws up. No beer until after the saws are put away. Paul
