These outboard sprockets are great. When you get pinched you can simply remove the powerhead and saw yourself out with another saw without fear of smashing the pinched saw.
Wouldn't it be nice if the 357 and 346 were outboard?
John

Rocky i was thinking the same thing , it is quite hard to get stuck with a laser beam , you almost have to try

yep john it do make a difference. back before i became the feller i am now ,it woulda made more difference tho.:D :D

It was windy, ya it was windy, thats why I got pinched lol.
Not! Actually, it was a hollow tree so it kinda leaned towards me a bit.
Is this dangerous, what if a limb fell on the bar causing the barnuts to poke out my eye? Only chainsaw world knows this for sure.
John

John, Oh man been there done that!! Maybe if you would have had that old KD88 attached to the other end of that bar you could have kept that tree from settiling down like that.............you've been running too many saws........... losing familiarity with each individual saws ability to perform at the stump...........John different saws =a different approach when felling timber................ah heck too many cold ones, you know that already to....... just trying to keep it silly John all in good humor eh?.......................Sincerly, The Psychosawlogical specialist, Weenie Johnson

Oh I see, the wind and a hollow tree caused you to get pinched........hmmmmm! very suspcious I have heard these excuses before........... mostly from myself as I cuss and slip and slide my way back across the bank to get my axe and wedges.......if I am so lucky to be able to get unstuck that way.............Anyway off to a soft pillow.........good night all, Wade

That's what a wedge is for!.....rookie! At least it wasn't just bar nuts you salvaged. I've never done that Gypo.....LOL Dennis

I better tell the truth, here's what happened, a topless blonde went jogging by and I lost my consentration and I pinched my bar. Yes, that's what happened.
She them climbed into a tree fort and beckoned me to come up, so I did, but the woodlot owner caught us and threw me off the job.
Dennis, maybe we should get Jim L to pack our wedges. LOL
John

JimL, the wedge doesn't go in the undercut, it goes in the backcut. If I was taking your advice, I'd have the bar and the wedge pinched.
John

You want a 10 or a 12" wedgie or how about one with a steel head?

lol

Crofter, I dont know what the mechanical pros/cons would be? It sure is nice to have when you do things like Hypo I mean Gypo does.............When my dad taught me how to cut he taught me how to stump jump and other variations...........I used to get stuck like that 2-3 times a week for the first few months or so................then I figured it all out and the only time I get stuck now is when I am thinking of Gypo seeing that blond and wondering why this doesn't happen to me..............Wade

Every once in a while a wedgie will get you out of an undercut but not very often......................If Gypo would have just tied that bar off to his back belt loop he could have easily removed it from that tree as he was running after that blond...............Wade

Frank,

I question how much less lateral load there is with an inboard sprocket. The load doesn't appear until the clutch engages, and that interface is a lot further out than on an outboard sprocket.
