You could quite possibly have "dirty" points (pitted or oily) which would cause saw to run poorly. Sometimes they will arc, and weld themselves together. Replace points if this is the case. If you simply need to "dress" them, you'll need a small engine tune-up kit which contains a points file, and feeler gauge. after making sure the saw is safe, (sparkplug removed. etc) and working conditions are clean, rotate the crank by hand bringing the points into contact with each other. gently open the points by rotating the crank and slip the file between them. Bring them back into contact with the file, give them 3-4 nice even and gentle strokes(they should look bright and unpitted). Then clean them by pulling some clean heavy white paper, like a business card through them, to make certain there is no residue or filings left behind, you can also spritz down the area with a good areosol electrical solvent/cleaner, and let it dry thoroughly. Check the gap between the points per specs in manual using the feeler gauge. If the gap is improperly adjusted, loosen the screw holding the points and re-set them to spec. Also check to be sure the condensor wire is not broken, replace if it is. You may also want to have coil tested as well if your still not getting spark. Good luck!
