Finally bringing problem solving this P85 with a crapped out coil into the 21st century. K boys. Time to start thinking. The last pic shows the p85 with my old Jonsereds sitting in the dark in the barn... how poetic.

I take it you cannot find a coil for this and need to rig a coil from a different saw to this one. I would make a mounting plate on which to mount a single coil ignition from a Husky, or whatever brand you desire, onto that will then mount on the existing bosses on the cylinder. As long as you have the coil placed correctly on the plate the timing should be good to go. hope this is what you were looking for for a suggestion. :)

Have you tried taking the coil of the armature? You might be able to put a new coil on the armature. The new coil does not have to be the same brand always, this could take a lot of tries. I have had good success using coils off string trimmers.

That mount looks similar to the mount on some of the older Partner cut off saws but the ones I have seen usually had a cast adapter plate between the coil and the cylinder and used a coil with only two mounting holes.

did partner make the ignition or is it an oem make like repco, phaelon, wico etc. If it was an oem make perhaps the same coil was used on other saws if you have the part number, just a shot in the dark.

I am posting these picture of a P 65 Partner coil mount help show what I was talking about in respect to the coil mount adapter. These are stock parts but could easily be made from alum. or plastic. If you do this it could be easier to find a replacement coil.

Believe me

Believe me....he knows about the adapter plates now.....he just got his saw out of jail.....long story

Glad I checked on this post. Had really run into some snobs and less than creative minds in my day to day attempts to get this sucker fired up.. Pest saw some first hand. Will take all the info I can.. that way I have choices.. Imagine choices fixing the ol P85.. thought there was no hope.

Keep it all comin.. don't mind learnin'!!!

to answer an earlier question. the coil is by prufrex. funny i was just talking about coming up with some sort of adapter or doing some machining to solve this if i HAD to.

goes to show that throwing money at a situation isn't always the easiest way.

especially if no one "wants" to sell you the parts.
