My 056 Mag has a dual port setup, and I'm working on getting one for 045 Super as well. Pretty slick and it's all factory parts, right out of the parts list. The jugs are different with fins removed to allow the extension of the exhaust above the chain cover. I have a muffler that some bozo hacked off half the pipe to make it fit with a standard 045 jug. Useless to me.

skip/comp

Bwalker, I've been trying to tell Rich that but with no luck, he's still trying to get me to go with skip and I am glad to hear some one else say comp is good in hardwood. Skip may have less cutters to sharpen but you're right about having to sharpen them more often. Do you like the PP7900 after you've gotten to run a few tanks of gas through it?

Dr.Hackemoff, If you just put a 45*cut in on the outside edge deep enough for the wedge to slide in you'll find they split much easier without having to half them all the way with the saw unless you're trying to split a croutch of course.

Geo...I don't quite understand the 45 degree angle attack. Elaborate further, or draw me a picture in crayon I can understand. I'll try anything.

Based on experience ( I know I'm no logger but I do split a dozen cords a year by hand with a variety of mauls, sledges, and wedges. Call me Stu Pidasso is you wish, but it keeps me young), I've found cutting a slot in the top of a log (standing upright, ready but unwilling to be split) is a mixed blessing. A long notch may seem to be the best, since you're essentially splitting the log via the saw, but I've notched logs almost in half and found my wedges just bouce back out due to the increased springiness of the wood caused by my notch.

Man, cutting them "lengthways" last weekend was a blast. As long as it's fun, why do anything else? My son thinks I'm going to wear out the saw doing that. Silly kid.....

Attached is some more black walnut to split (have three cords in the shed - good year).
