I planted a few paw paw trees 6 years ago. Only 3 of them survived, but last year, I finally got 3 paws paws on 1 tree. I found the taste to be exquisite, refreshing and delicious. I would say it was my favorite fruit . Unfortunately my 3 paw paws do not seem like they will produce any fruit this year. They've only reached a max height of around 5-6 ft and I was having trouble with black leaf fungus for the first several years, which stunted their growth. Been spraying the leaves with water/ baking soda, but it seems like that burnt the ends of the leaves . Either way, if you never tried a fresh paw paw , do yourself a favor and eat one. They mature around sept. in zone 7.
Ive had a awful problem with june bugs { which ironically come out in MAY and JULY, but seem to take a vacation in June} They destroy the leaves on my Chinese chestnut trees to the point that I am now strapping a headband light onto my forehead and going out at 9:30 pm, to hand pick each june bug off the leaves. Some nights I pick over 200 june bugs and it takes me about 1 hour. I feed them to my chickens , but was wondering if theres a easier way to control/ kill these bugs, without using harsh insecticides ?
