Have any of you guys sold anything using paypal? Got a guy who wants to buy my new 200T. He wants to pay using paypal, but I have never used it and don't really trust the net with that stuff. He also keeps saying he needs it by this weekend. He has said this same thing over the course of a month. Wondering if I am walking into some sort of scam.

Bank check via UPS or Fed Ex overnight to you. Let him pay up for expedited shipping for the saw. Make sure the bank check is drawn on a bank in your area to cash. Some banks will even charge a fee to cash their own check if you aren't a customer at their bank.
Whenever someone is in a hurry on "their time frame" through the internet or internet payment system it throws red flags to me. If he keeps saying he needs it by the weekend over and over again he is either high or dumb. I wouldn't sell to the guy.
How does he know your saw is for sale?

Exactly, that seems weird to me, why he would keep saying that, feel that this is some sort of scam. He found me on CL. Think I am going to pass. I could sell it here for the same price and get cash. But I think I am just going to keep it.

I paid Randy (mastermind) for port work on two saws by PayPal and bought a new 660 from a member here with it too. It can take a few days to go through, mine is linked to my bank account and card too. If it is a gift then the sender pays a small fee but you shouldn't. I don't think you have payment protection like an eBay seller would but PayPal is trustworthy as far as I've seen just don't let the saw go till it is cleared in your account which could take a week

I use paypal for everything I buy from the states. The exchange rate is a bit ******, but it's instant and sending money overseas is a real pain in the ass if you do a bank transfer, plus it's slow and you have to pay for it ($25~$50 per transaction). For the amount I'm sending (generally under $1,000) paypal comes out ahead. The recipient gets his funds immediately in the paypal account, and can withdraw them in a day or two.

Paypal is great as a buyer, particularly through ebay. It gives you a lot of guarantees that you're going to get what you paid for, otherwise paypal will deal with it and you get your money back. As a seller, if selling be sure the buyer chooses 'money as a gift' rather than 'money for goods', and make sure they cover the fees at their end so it doesn't come out of your money. If they choose money for goods/services then they can request a refund form paypal at a later date if the goods aren't what they were expecting or if they just change their mind!

Paypal is a good service if the buyer and seller both trust each other.

Cash in the hand is always king though.

Yeah, he wants me to send it right away, and he wants to do it "money for goods", this tells me he will probably try to screw me. Thanks fellas.

Only thing about PayPal is sometimes if there is a dispute they side with the buy until the sellers proves they are right

CL can be tricky due to scammers and I have used it quite often as a seller. I used to be a power seller on eBay selling gold and silver coins, bullion and the like so I am also very familar with eBay/Paypal.

As was mentioned he should be willing to send the funds via "family friends" but he might not be a scammer due to his hastiness and in the likelyhood that he is honest and for tax purposes he would send the funds via. "Goods and services" which is frankly just how some people operate.

However, discretion is always the order of the day with craigslist buyers who use paypal as a means to pay for goods and ask that you ship upon cleared payment.

If he is legit, normally you are able to call and talk with them personally and then you are better suited to develop an opinion on him/her through conversation. You could email them a contract..."This day so in so is buying x and Admits money/item being bought its not stolen etc..." and check the Paypal name/email name etc with the buyer see if he will send a dollar as a test. However, most scammers who operate under false identity will not go through with such test. Then again they might not even call you and talk to you once you say, in a text or email, "If you are real then call me or do yadayada."

Ok, on the other hand, the buyer has to trust you too soo trust is a 50/50 deal once monies clear.

Hmmm...Again discretion is in order and who's to say a brother hihacked his sisters account or a man needing a saw hijacked his wife's account and thats how he has access to all that matching info but not likely but there is no telling but a scammer is easy to find and all you have to do is probe. Call paypal even.

I say this because I made a living off of buying and selling once. (if you don't believe me just look at my youtube channel and see for yourself) So everybody who is using paypal or in this case is a bit hasty always can't be ruled a scammer because thats just how some choose to operate. But being balanced and throughly trying to discern a person's true intention...mainly through conversation will determine whether or not you feel comfortable dealing with them.

Honestly, I would have lost out on thousands if I chose to turn all those people away. However, I did refuse quite a few in my time.

Just saying...Always learning

Oh yeah to all you guys who use paypal apply for a business debit card that way you can have money instantly to withdrawl it immediately to cover shipping for items sold especially of you are trying to sell on eBay.

Never accepted paypal, but I have used it to buy.

Wait for money to clear to ship it. Take pictures, send to buyer and ship with tracking and insurance. That way he can't say he never got it. If it is tracked to his house, and he is crying to paypal that he didn't get it, I'd assume you show them the tracking info and it becomes the shipper's problem to deal with him. If he wants it this weekend, and wants to pay for the shipping to make that happen, let him. (assuming paypal can clear that quickly). If he wants to pay you extra to cover the paypal fees, let him. If he expects that to be included in the price, tell him the price just went up because you have another offer.

Bottom line: I'd have no problem accepting paypal if I knew I covered everything on my end.

But if you can get cash locally and not have to deal with shipping, etc... why wouldn't you?

You need to be sure that you send it "signature required, with proof of ID". If you got a signature, then that pretty settles all claims about whether they got it. It costs a bit more to ship that way, though.

I recently got scammed (accidentally) by Amazon; the FedEx guy reported that he made a delivery, but I had him on camera just driving straight by at the time he claimed that he stopped and made the delivery. Amazon made it good, and FedEx delivered the same package a few days later.

Hmmm. I wonder how they delivered a package that they didn't still have?

I just passed, I think he was a scammer. I learned that u can , as the buyer, turn around and get a refund right away. Like said above, paypal sides with the buyer. He wanted me to send it the same day he did the paypal. If I did that, he could have done the refund thing, got his money back and my saw. Rather not mess with any of it. Decided to keep the saw.He offered 600 so I had dropped down to it, as that's what I needed to buy something I wanted. With all these new saws coming out, and a bunch a mixed reviews on them all. Figured I would be better of just keeping it............unless someone wanted to offer me a ridiculous amount of money for it! That saw bugs me tho, very much. Its so damn shiny and new. I wanna use it really bad, but then put it back down. Its a virgin and I dont wanna pop its cherry yet.

tis brand new, but I have decided to keep it. Its the one I bought at the pawn shop for 300, brand new. Now I am addicted, I go in there every couple of days to see what they got. They are not very smart, prices are either way high or way low. They have a $120 POS welder that ya can buy new at harbor, listed for $120, and its really beat up. Then they had a brand new Garmin GPS for 20 bucks! I bought that!

If you ever decide to use pay pal just make sure the payment comes from PayPal and not a fake email look alike. I've gotten them before but could spot the fake. Just check your account by going to the actual PayPal.com website. I feel 100% safe using PayPal for all my online transactions.

It would be child's play to tell a fake from an original. Open your account (without using any links on the email!), check for transactions completed.
