It's amazing to me that you inspect that saddle daily and didn't see what looks to me as a old tear to the point the inner parts have the same color as the outer material , maybe you should ask someone else to also Inspect your gear , just to be safe ya know !

Totally understand where you're coming from. If you know this saddle though, you know that each of those easy to see rips in the pics were tucked and wrapped around a specially made notch, specific to the Sequoia, where the hip D's are joined to the saddle. Each piece had to be tugged out of from behind the D's just to see the tears. Having another pair of eyes to inspect your equipment is a good idea. But man, my groundie Kevin wears some thick glasses. :msp_unsure: I'll put my all into future inspections for sure, as I've learned a lesson from this. But guys, and I say this so everyone will do the same, I haven't been slack about it in the past.

Jeff, sorry if I jumped the gun. My apologies.

We are tree guys, no need to apologize. You would be amazed at my thick skin,,lol,:hmm3grin2orange:
Actually not your fault. I think someone called me a bully. Your perception is your reality.
Jeff

You are a bully just look at that mustache you got. Get a harley cut off the sleeves and your ready to break some skulls. i would be nervous if you where my boss you look like one of those guys that has a real stern look. like out of an old western how those guys look at each other before they draw guns.

Glad to hear it. I'd love to get a little backup on how hard that area is to inspect when you get a chance. Not for me, but for all the other climbers using the Sequoia. Thanks.

Jeff,
Geez dude, you look like a Nordic gorilla! I guess I shoulda known with that last name. You gotta get just a liiiittttle more cauliflower in those ears before I get too skeered tho. :msp_tongue:All in fun.

Update

Got a call from Petzl today and I'm gonna send my broken Sequoia back to them for research. James @ Petzl offered me a great deal on a Sequoia Swing that I couldn't refuse. I promised him I'd keep the price on the DL, but he took good care of me without ever seeing my saddle. He felt like the coastal conditions here might've had an effect on the aluminum. So, pretty happy with the way it all worked out.

This will be my first bosun-seat style harness. Any you guys climb in this? Thanks in advance.

Will

FWIW....I took a very close look at my sequoia today. The area in question def takes an extra effort to inspect closely. My saddle is 4 years old and has absolutely no wear or corrosion in that area. The saddle has no excessive wear at all for that matter. I am on my 4th bridge but otherwise I think its in great shape and is holding up well. It sees plenty of use 8 months outa the year. Mild use for 2 months and no use for two months.

Appreciate that TreeAce. You can find it, but you have to know where it is, hunt it down, and pry it out. Not something you'd find on a regular browsing of your equip, IMHO. I was on my 4th bridge too.

when i took some climbing classes one thing that kinda stcuk with me and is helpfull was to do a BACK check before climbing. hope it helps:msp_thumbup:

Belt
Anchor
Carabiners
Knots

Meant to give you a shout out earlier. I like the acronym and will definitely put to use in our system. After years of climbing you start to recognize the things that will cause wear, and get wear, but it's easy to get lazy and just check the same things every day.
