Depends on what you are using it for. The one that is more hooked on the end tends to be better for pulling or sliding logs and the straight one is better for picking up rounds. Just my 2 cents
 
Just get both styles. Do yo have just one chainsaw, axe, or maul?

Seriously, I recently picked up a hookeroon and I don't know how I got by without one. This is the one I got. I use it exclusively for firewood.

Made it from an old hoe handle, some all thread, couple of nuts
and couple of hose clamps to keep the handle from splitting.

I made an 8' one similar to that except used a 'compression union' from the plumbing department crossdrilled to fit the all thread. Haven't crawled up in the bed of the truck to unload a round since. Great addition to my 36" logrite.
