When I took my wildthing in for repair I had them make me a new chain. I didn't ask questions (due to my own ignorance of the subject). I just asked them to make me a new chain. Its a stihl, 3/8" low profile but I don't know the other specifics. From looking at the Stihl website I'm thinking its maybe PM or RM but heck, I don't know. I'll post some pics and maybe you can help me. I do know that i found a 4x4 post outback and it cut through it with very little effort. Any ideas on what it is? Thanks, Greg

I am definitely not a chain expert but the tie straps look a lot like the Picco Micro.

Good call on the bar.

The chain is stihl picco micro, and I would also say that you get a new bar. It will ruin that chain awfully fast.:jawdrop:

I'll pick me up a bar tomorrow. This chain is incredible compared to the standard chains that came with it. I bought a couple of replacement Oregons and they weren't much better. I'd hate to ruin it. Thanks again, Greg

It is a Stihl 63PM (Picco micro), which is a much better chain than the 63PM1, and the Oregon 91VG that probably were on the saw originally.

You were in luck, as I understand that 3/8" lo-pro chain without the bumper tie straps are hard to come by, at least some places in the US.

Something tells me I'll have to go by today and have them make me another one, lol. Thanks, Greg

If you plan on running that New Bar you are buying I would ask him if he will cut you a deal on 5 loops, thats what I do and ususally save about 3-5$ per loop,,,,,, then you ve always got a fresh sharp one if you get in a bind and dont have time to file!!! Just my .02

I'm actually going to a different shop, the one where I plan on buying my new saw. I need a clutch cover with the chain tensioner for my wildthing and they might have it in stock. I think they said they'd make me a loop for 16 or 18 bucks. I think I paid above 20 for this last loop. But, if it cuts this good its worth it. Thanks, Greg

Guys,
How much more kickback would one expect in real life using the PM chains versus the PM1.

My MS200 has the PM1 and cuts well, how much better and more dangerous would the PM chain be?
thanks
Greg Harrison

The PM, and PM1/PM2 have been discontinued - anything left is old stock. The replacements are now PMC and PMC3, both nice chains, and unless you are boring, cut about the same.

I suspect the PMC3 may borecut better than both the PM and PMC, the same way the Oregon LP borecuts better than the LG (sources: Crofter and Oregon).:D

The reason is the slimmer raker - and the little ramp doesn't matter.

I had another 18 inch PM chain made for my wildthing today. What chain should I get in the .325 size when I get my MS250 if the PM isn't available? Maybe the RM? Whats my best choice? Thanks, Greg

For the 250,- the .325 narrow kerf (NK) would probably been the best option, but Stihl doesn't offer that, and Oregon doesn't offer NK bars that fit the small Stihl mount of the 250 either.....

...maybe Carlton does; at least they do for the medium Stihl mount ??????

I don't know if Oregon offers the Micro Lite to fit a 250/025, BUT they do offer an .050 gauge pro lite which will run the narrow kerf 95VP/95R(ripping chain) however, I would rather use 26RSC or 26RS on a 250 .325X.063 or if you have the .50" gauge bar 23rsc. Kudos on getting the yellow label stihl picco. A lot of shops either don't know it exists or won't sell it to non pros.
