Well, after a round journey of about 150 miles to fetch it, i finally got it home and set about tarting it up. Got it for a steal, less than half the price of what they are going for on eBay. There was a few things i noticed when i first saw it. It needed a new Elastostart handle as it had been chewed by a dog, the chain was on its last legs, the bar, although it had some paint missing, was fine. Looked in pretty good condition for a 4 year old saw. Probably only had the work to wear down the chain, so not much i guess!!

I was really eager to put it through its paces, so i took it to work with me the following day. Normally use a 346xp ne but i left it in the truck and gave the 260 a run instead. Gave it a quick pass with the file and away i went. It cuts really well, seems to be on par with the husky, which i know it shouldn't be, but it is. I didn't do any timed cuts etc, but it felt nice to use. Couldn't really tell any difference in weight either.
Something else i noticed was that.... here goes.... They seem a bit, well, plasticky! Everything seems a bit cheaply made compared to the husky. The 346 seems solid and the chainbrake feels like it is part of the saw. On the Stihl it seems like it was an after thought and if you put too much pressure on it then it might snap off or something. Nevermind though, it cuts like a hot knife through butter so i can't complain too much for the price! :D It has the side tensioner which tbh, is a bit of a ball ache, but now i'm used to it, i suppose it's ok... suppose!

I threw a bit of money at it and replaced the pull start handle, ordered a new 16" bar and a couple of chains for it also. Fitted them today and took some pics for here... Hope you enjoy them!

Nice!

Is that a cat. muffler? I have a 260 Pro, but the muffler is quite different.

I've only ever seen mufflers like that on 240/260s - maybe it's a Europe thing? I know my 365 has a different muffler to the American ones, at least

congrats on the new saw!

for what reason would that be then? Don't think it's a cat or anything? is it? It doesn't sound as good as the 346 i know that.

can i split the muffler? I didn't realise they had a cat.

also brad, what is the difference between a normal 260 and a 260 arctic?

cheers mate.

oh right. i guess that makes sense really.... derr.... wondered why they weighed more!

I could be wrong, but I don't think it is a cat, just a different style of muffler used in the UK/Europe as opposed to America for some reason!

whereabouts in the UK are you matey?

Nottinghamshire mate, you?

Only noticed it in the link that was posted, but it says catalytic converter... Might pull it and take a few pictures for people on here to look at and offer some advice about it.

I like the way it cuts now, zippy and plenty powerful for what i use it for.

I'm down in Gloucestershire, bit of a way from you!

glad you're happy with the saw, hope you work the muffler out!

nice to have a fellow brit on here! :D we are few and far between!

Think i will try and split the muffler and see whats what. I don't really want to be taking the carb off to remove the caps etc... would probably never be able to put it back together again. :bang:

cheers.
