not like it ever happens to me ,with my vast amount of experience. course if it does thats what the wench and 100 ft rope are for. :)
but id like for those in the know to give ideas on handling difficult trees ,that are doing their best to pinch the bar, wedge an all. also your methods of getting the saw unpinched and stayin alive at the same time.
understand this aint for me,but for those who arnt old pros like me. :)

You must have some pretty big girls down there. :) Most of us would get into serious trouble if we hired wenches to pull over big trees...

When ever I've had a tree sit back and pinch I realized that I made a mistake in setting a pull over line or making a correct face cut. The pinch is the first warning that you're in trouble. If this happens with any regularity you had better stop and reassess your skills. You're asking for an accident.

Pinch happens to everyone. The main thing to consider is what type of pressure is on the tree or limb that I am cutting? Based on correct asssment of that question you then decide which direction to cut from. Trees that don't have any other trees lying on top of them are normally straight cuts from the top. When braches are underpressure from a tree lying on them it's normally a straight cut from the top. Trees under pressure from their own weight when they are supported (lets say by another tree or unever terrain) at both the top and the bottom but not in the middle are noramlly staright cuts from the bottom. Trees can also be under pressure from the sides.

Think of the tree as a stick that you can break with your hand. Depending on which way you put pressure on it, one side of the stick will have preesure to compress itself, while the opposite side has preesure to pull itself apart. Beggining the cut from the side that has pressure to pull itself appart is esssentil. Beggining the cut from the side that has preesure to compress itself will result in pinching.

Preesure results from (1)gravity (2) stuff lying on the tree (3) stuff in the way of the tree preventing it from straightening itself out and relieving tensile pressure.

For me I pinch saws when I have pile up stuff all messy and lying on each other and I get in a hurry and acciently cut from the top when i should have cut from the botttom or side or vice versa.

The thing to do if your saw is stuck is to use a second saw to make a cut to free the first saw. many begginers make the mistake of pulling and jerking on the saw like crazy which is usually hopeless, and may damage the saw.

You guys already knew that though. But for any begginers that might be reading. :blob2:

I should add that pinching a saw in a tree that is already cut down is not nearly as dangerous as pinching while falling a standing tree. If a saw pinches while falling a standing tree (and I gotta think back a while for the last time this happened to me or I had to help someone that it happened to) I hook cables to it and pull it with a skidder or tractor. If you don't have a skidder or tractor, and you cant use wedges (not even steel wedges and a slege hammer) than you can remove the saw from the bar (leaving only the bar and chain in the tree so that the saw wont get crushed), take a second saw, fall the tree in a more or less opposite direction that you originally wanted to and hope your bar doesn't get wrecked. That is if there's nothing valuable to crush in that direction (for example your house, truck, or a valuable log tree. lol).

When ever working near a standing tree with a saw pinched in it, make sure that you are 100% safe from the tree suddenly falling over, which can happen at any time.

good info so far . thjis is what i was
looking for info about.
and it dont happen often , but when it does ,im just looking for different ideas.
tom ,one reason i ask the question was to
go against what i think can hurt the forums effectiveness. in short a lot of questions dont get ask because everybody wants to leave the image of
being a pro. everybody knows ,a pro already knows everything.not. just my take on it ,and not meant to offend. but ive seen this happen on other forums.

Sometimes we get pinched within the branches of a tree we are limbing. It is just a simple matter of grabing the end of the offending branch and pulling it or jumping on it, or driving over it.
Whatever it takes, as long as you dont hurt the saw.
