I just scored a really nice p39 from eBay. Was wondering if these were considered a good saw or just a larger consumer grade saw. I have never owned a Pioneer and was curious what thoughts here were on them.

Thanks!

WOW, you bought that P39? & live in the Netherlands? How much was shipping? Very nice saw, pro saw that started using more plastic then its early models

I did buy it, but I don't live in the Netherlands. I live in Newfoundland. An island off the East coast of Canada.

Anyone know what I would have to order to get an 18" bar on this old girl?
I believe the 18" bar was the most difficult length to find for these saws, even years back so I have adapted Husqvarna D009 bars to fit my P series saws. Only have to file out the bar slot just a little wider.

Oregon has a listing for a 16" bar, 168RNDD007 and a 20" bar, 208RNDD007. They are both 3/8" chain in .058 gauge., they also have a listing for a 20" bar with the cat number 208ATMD007. I suggest you call the closest Oregon dealer and see if these are still current bar numbers, I find Oregon is dropping bars for these older saws more often since they were bought out by Blout.

Does your saw have the screen insert type filter, pn#474604 or the flat flocked type,pn # 475289.
I have no idea, and I am not familiar with Pioneer saws (Last one I used was a 1074 about 25 years ago). It has a rubber insert that the filter lays in. There wouldn't be a hole for a stud as there isn't one there.
EDIT: It should be the same as a Poulan 405 or 455 PN 507 475289

Should look like this one,
