Hi chaps,

As in the title, can you recommend one for smaller pistons we have in our saws? I can find many automotive ones but the smallest pistons they work on is 2-2.5”. That’s fine for 70cc plus but not for less..

I’m aware of the importance of cleaning the carbon out of the ringlands correctly without scoring, scratching widening or generally damaging them, but it’s a tiresome process and having done it to a good 10+ pistons, I’m over using hard plastic or wooden lollipop sticks and lots of elbow grease.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I use any Automotive set of rings. The larger the better. I like to take a little hand grinder and make some notches then to the bench grinder to get the exact width. Very little chance of damaging the grove that way. Always pull the ring towards you. Some times a little fine tuning is appropriate. If you do not use vice grips than a good idea to smooth the edges to keep from getting cut. Thanks
