Can't say that I've ever seen that on a saw. I have heard of hornets building nests in tractor intake stacks--especially tall ones like old JDs. In one case, the guy nearly yanked the manifold before he thought to look at the stack. Oh, he ran like hell when he found the problem.

Sort of like the guys who have an electrical problem, so they replace the most expensive part first and work their way towards the cheapest.

I get probably 10 or so a year stihl blowers with the 5/16" or so hole in the exhaust, usually a mud wasp nest.
 
I get a fair amount of trimmers that are run at part throttle that clog the screen. And several dozen a season that are plugged with mud.
