What is the best model Stihl pole pruner? I think some of them you can change attachments and change it to a weedeater. If anyone owns one of these please give me some advice.
thank you

You got it backwards. Some of the trimmers can be converted into short pole saws. The HT-75 would make a lousy trimmer but it might be fun to stand on one side of a ditch and trim the other.

Don't know what the best pole saw is but all the pro Stihl ones use the 4137 powerhead (25.4cc)--same as the pro powerhead on the high end trimmers.

Pole saws have been discussed here recently and I recall the Echo coming out a little better. Do a search for it.

Our local echo dealer sends their customers looking for a polesaw to our shop (Stihl).

Hmmm.. Maybe my recollection is off. I know Echo didn't come out unfavorably. I think the shaft was more durable. It's not important enough to me to go looking myself. That's why I suggested he search so he could form his own opinion.

If my local shop sends Echo customers looking for polesaws to Stihl, he either sends him right to the other side of the room or to the competition who also sells Stihl and Echo. (I think that was a run-on sentence.) Lots of choices.

Hey, I like Stihls but I'm open to other tools that work just as well. My little Homelite 360 is quite an excellent saw. I love International tractors, but JDs have their place.

There is no better tool than the one doing its job well.

Chris,
Jim sees things in a different way than most of us. If 9 people recommend the Echo and one person prefers the Stihl, then in his mind the Stihl is the obvious best choice and the Echo comes out unfavorably. His Stihl underwear is a bit too tight perhaps?

The dealer in town recomends them.

At the expo last year i heard the echo reps talking to people and saying the stihl ones were better.
ill tell ya they are a piece of ????. The shafts are junk. I keep 2 in stock at all times.

Durability with my Echos has been excellent. An extra extension is available for the Echo which I have never seen for Stihls. I have never used the Stihl but have handled one at the dealership. It LOOKS slicker than the Echo. But since I :A. Have an Echo already. B. Like the extra extension for special tasks a couple times per month. C. Have had excellent service from 2 Echos (I haven't worn one out but backed the truck over the first one after 4 years of use  ) I will probably never buy a Stihl.

I am confused.... for which brand do you keep the spare shafts?

stihls,
county brings me one a week at least that they have screwed up.

The problem with the Stihl pole saw is that it does not like to be abused. If the sawyer has poor control of the saw and lets the bar fall after the cut and the saw then stops short when it jits a lower branch the shaft can get bent. Usually the saw will work like this but will not retract.

We have a Stihl HT75 at work and I'm pretty pleased with it. Don't use it very often but when I do I'm sure glad that I have it. Haven't tried the Echo version so I can't give you any comparison.

The HT75 has of late been vibrating like the dickens ,though, and I can't figure out why. Seems like all the screws are tight. Any ideas?

Mike,

Are you trying to imply something by your statement? Heck, I didn't even compare it to any other saws.

Chris B.

To answer your three questions: No, not applicable, not applicable.

Thanks, Stumper, you may be right there. I hadn't thought of that. If I have time to tear the thing apart tomorrow I'll check it out.

Hey Pea
I have a HT75 and it is great!
This is the second one I have had and I would buy a third.
You do have to watch not to drop it fully extended or it will banana on you.
No problem if you keep it sharp and don't need to force it.
Also use a light oil so it will keep lubed, really important in the winter.
The oil system needs re-working in this issue
The joy of this saw is you can switch heads to make it a hedge trimmer!!!
I know, I know you are not sposed to do this but if you are careful not to take to big of bite with it will be fine.
It has no clutch like this so you can break a shaft!
Enjoy!!!!!!!
John
