Stay here you are on your way to bigger and better things.

I encoutered the same thing several years ago. I was told that I need to learn to work more off of my lanyard. I always advance my climbing line above me 5 to 10 feet ( when possible ). I like the security and freedom this allows.

Understand that I am not doing something wrong, just different.

Climb how you correctly feel..........the he!! with what they say!;)

I think the Cd is skipping again.
20 replies that all say the same thing.

Ok NYSB, in case you didn't hear, F-em, be safe first, quick second. In a few years you can be both at once.

Do you want to be on a job when a free-climber falls? I doubt it.

ANSI says that we can ascend but not work from ladders. On my crews "work" starts when you touch the tree. If you have to brush aside a limb, you're working and need to be tied in. That's my personal interpretation.

Did a cabling today. Climbed up using a ladder, but that was it... did everything else on rope. (Didn't want to risk missing with the throwbag over a $50k glass roof!)

I could have come down and tossed the throw bag for you.:D ???? urban loggers.

Yea, no free climbing.

Are you not allowed to use a BigShot? I mean, when you can start nailing par 4's in one or two, they're gonna see it your way.

Using a BigShot, you can set a really nice, high TIP. And what about your freeclimbing compadres in a tree like I did today, not even a limb up until 50 feet. What do the hotshots do then?

Become an artist with the BigShot. Your time may be brief with this outfit, and you'll move on to the next, or you'll become your own boss. Deadly accuracy with the BigShot, please trust me on this, is one of the most gratifying aspects of tree work that's not actually part of being in the tree. It is a cool, cool sport and is not hard to become good at.

Sounds like the hispanic guy has a macho thing going; not worth emulating. I use a ladder all the time--still--but no more free climbing. If you want to be faster take 2 lanyards, or 1 lanyard and 1 short line w snap, as you ascend to a TIP.

It's cool w ANSI to do it that way, and effective.;)

I'd stay in touch with the other guy who wants a climber, check his references, etc.
"They sent me up nice size pin oak to prune out deadwood, the majority of sucker growth"
What matters is quality, not speed. Check out this pin oak in a year and see if it is suckering back. If so, you took off too much for the health of the tree. Remember, the boss gives you the check but the tree gives you the work, and more.

sounds like a good place to do some time IMO,it doesnt matter how someone else climbs, just do what you feel is right.just keep learning ;)

Yo Boss send those guys my way. We can send their Oompa Loompa ass's up a 110 foot black oak with their ladder and see what they do. The shoe will be on the other foot and we can laugh at them as we blow by. They'll be mucho tartuga. Nothing wrong with wanting to be tied in at all times. I would find a quicker way to be safe.

You know I can't stay away from that place. Ask Roachy its all I talk about. It's all about the happy meal for and ice cream. Your only a kid once you know. Someday I'll be all grown up and a role model. Rubble Rubble Rubble. Get it?

i noticed something...you seem to have a problem with spanish people inevery race there are lazy people but you make a point of it? a little predjudise are you? im sorry but i find it repulsive!!!

You talking to me? Lazi are they no not at all. They are the best guys I have ever worked with. I work with about 15 or so mexicans. I can't tell you enough how great they are. Maybe I am just prejugdice against short people and people are like the ones mentioned. It has nothing to do with where they are from at all. I don't like hearing about free climbers who are "faster" than everyone else. Thats just not so. Slow and steady wins the race. I am amazed at how quickly my guys can get something done. It's decieving. I am sure my co workers on here will agree. I just wish they spoke english or I spoke better spanish. When finally break the language barrier look out. Sorry if you read me the wrong way. I do make some coments that may make you think otherwise. But I don't have a white cape and pointed hat. P town representing here. Right Pat?

I just re-read your post. I don't know where she got her opinion from. Maybe she's related to madame Cleo. You got something you're hiding Big John?

Well, what would you expect from someone too lazy to use good grammar?

or maybe I'm just being "predjudise"...

Tony, If you're new to the game listen to these people on this site. 9 times out of 10 they've got great points and ideas. Speed will come with time you can't expect to be quick right of the bat. You'll know if you've got it in you when you can work safe and quick. Always try to remember safety is no thing to throw out the door. You'll lose in the long run and probably lose your life. This is a dangerous business so never lose site of safety.
